Corrugated Super Six Fences
The classic grey corrugated fibro fence found along side and rear boundaries all over Sydney. We unbolt each sheet and lower it whole instead of breaking it, which keeps fibre release down and disposal costs predictable.
Cracked and Storm Damaged Fences
Sheets that are cracked, snapped or blown over by a storm need more care, because broken edges release fibres more easily. We wet down and wrap damaged sections first, then clear the rest of the run.
Flat Sheet Fibro Fences
Some older fences use flat fibro panels between timber or steel posts instead of corrugated sheets. They are just as likely to contain asbestos, and we remove them the same way, panel by panel.

How We Remove an Asbestos Fence
In NSW, removing more than 10 square metres of bonded asbestos needs a licensed removalist. A standard 1.8 metre high fence passes that after about six metres of length, so almost every backyard fence is licensed work.
Before removal begins, we:
- Inspect the fence and confirm what it is made of, with NATA laboratory testing if there is any doubt
- Notify SafeWork NSW at least five clear days before licensed removal begins
- Talk through access with you and, if needed, your neighbour, since the fence is usually shared
- Set up barriers, signage and plastic sheeting on both sides of the fence line
- Wet down the sheets so fibres stay bound in the cement
Each sheet is then unbolted, lowered whole, double wrapped in heavy plastic and taped. We clean up the fence line, transport the waste to Lucas Heights or another EPA licensed facility. An independent licensed asbestos assessor can inspect the area and issue a clearance certificate once the job is done.

How do I know if my fence contains asbestos?
If your fence is made of grey corrugated or flat fibro sheeting and was installed before 1990, assume it contains asbestos until it is tested. You cannot tell by looking. We can take a small sample and have it tested by a NATA accredited laboratory, usually with results within a few days.
Can I remove an asbestos fence myself?

Is an old fibro fence dangerous if I leave it alone?
Bonded asbestos sheeting in good condition is low risk while it is left undisturbed. The risk rises when sheets crack, break in a storm, are cut or drilled, or are water blasted. If your fence is damaged or you are planning a new fence, it is time to have it removed properly.
Who pays for removing a shared asbestos fence?
